Page 2 of my Dovedale Horseshoe

Now at 6am in the morning, you don't expect to see too many people
about at the bottom of the climb to Red Screes,
given that it would take a while just to get there from any direction.

There were about six in this little party.. but then..
and I dont have any pics.. about another HUNDRED or more people followed!
Turns out there were on this 24 peaks in 24 hours challenge.

I have to say that this really, really hurt.
My pack was no lighter than it had been the day before as my pants
had got wet in the evening rain and had not dried out.
This about half way up the climb to Red Screes.

Finally I got to the top, and boy was it worth it..

Finally a look at Red Screes summit..

Now according to my Wainwright Log book, under Red Screes it says,
"Below and east of the highest cairn on the summit is a prominent cluster of rocks worth visiting"

Please note said cluster of rocks...

Looking down from the summit to this set of rocks.. bottom left corner..
Question, how many people can you see???
None, right.... Well when I got to this set of rocks I got the most amazing views... but saw no one..

Wainwright goes onto say,
"It is a good vantage point, .... but it is well to tread cautiously here: beware crag!"

Beware crag.. beware very very long drop more like!!!

Now... remember I asked if you saw anyone....

The view from the rocks back up to the summit...
You can see me just right of center, next to the rock..

but look bottom left corner...

OK, I'll make it easier for you...

Looks to me like a monk sat praying...
maybe those nice Christian people I met the day before had had a word or two???
What ever you believe, I know where I was stood,
and I KNOW there we no rocks by the side of me that could have made that shaddow.

Red Screes Tarn, and back on top I started to make my way towards Middle Dodd.

My last Wainwright of the trip, Middle Dodd.

From here I had a great view of Little Hart Crag for the last time.

That Rock again..

Guess where?? he he he..

Down towards the pass.

Looking back up to Middle Dodd.

Please do email us if you have any comments. Chris
