On Friday 28th April 2006 I set off for Wasdale with
my very good friend Peter.
Our aim was to walk Yewbarrow on the Friday afternoon, and then go onto to
walk the Sca Fell range on the Saturday...
It just goes to show that sometimes, when you plan things yourself, and go
it alone, things really can work out for the best.
CAMP

Staying at the National Trust camp site we had the most amazing views all around us.

Lingmell in the foreground with the Scafell range behind.

Peter checking for creepy crawlies... lol

Our ever so low key mode of transport...
Yewbarrow

Peter just above the car park by the side of Wasdale

Already the most amazing views.. no not Pete.. the lake I mean..

The Scafell range from the very beginning of our walk.

Not far to go then.... Yewbarrow in all its glory...

At one point we couldn't quite figure out which way the path
was going to go..
then it started to open up a little..

Peter making it look easy...

This was a lot more spectacular that this photo shows..
...
Our route up.. gulp.. and Peter again leading the way..

Ohhh come on Chris.. get a move on.. pleeeeeaseeeee

So I did.. and reversed the angle...
Must add here that of all the places I have walked in the lakes, this is one
of the hairiest climbs I have done.
Always felt safe, but not at all easy in places.. not at all.

Peter looking towards the sun and Wasdale Lake, with the Sca Fell's behind him..
cracking picture this if I say so myself..

From the same place. and was that the top... don't be daft.. this is only half way...

We can do this.. I know we can...

A picci of Scafell without one of us spoiling it...

Again, the view down in real life was a little different to this picture

Wasdale

Right, listen carefully... having got to the top of one rock face, we figure that the very end of Yewbarrow is actually down and back up this gully.. which I think is way too hairy for me to try.. not our entrepid Peter (Bonnigton) Emblin .. ohh noo

Having made it across Pete heads for the end.
...
I wondered if he was going to try and fly off the edge at this point...

Finally on the summit of Yewbarrow with Great Gable behind me

And again but this time with the Sca Fell range.

Eeee look I made it... and I'm not even out of breath.. honest...

This would be our walk in the morning.. all the way up Lingmell (foreground) and then across to the Scafell range.

This is my next big walk - Pillar and across to Red Pike

Red Pike's side

Now.. if going UP had been wild.. coming DOWN was just darm crazy..

This was were we had come from...
All in all this will go down as a great walk,
done in 4 hours, in perfect conditions.
Having said that it is not one I would consider taking my kids on, not for
many years to come.
