The Eastern Fells
The Eastern Fells are home to possibly the best ridge walk in the whole of the Lake District, not that I have ever tried to do the whole thing. Nab Scar through to Clough Head is some 17 miles and some 6,200 ft of ascent. In the centre of this walk, (or there abouts), Helvellyn, one of my favourite places.
These fells are some of the most visited as they are I think, the most accessable. Don't be fooled by this though. Fairfield, in my opinion the coldest place in the lakes, always seems to be windy and the walk from Grisedale Tarn will leave you needing a rest for sure.
Even tiny Glenridding Dodd at 1,425ft has the most amazing views over Ullswater, and continue onto Sheffielf pike to glimpse Helvellyn and Catstycam. I love these fells and I shall be back I dare say many, many times. I finally finished this region in Oct 2007 with an amazing walk up to Helvellyn via Birkhouse moor
