On the 5th April 2007
I had my first really big walk for over 4 months... OUCH!!

Wasdale NT Camp Site - Wasdale Head - Kirk Fell - Black Sail Pass - Looking Stead -Pillar - Wind Gap - Black Crag,
Pillar - Scoat Fell, Little - Steeple - Scoat Fell, Little - Red Pike, Wasdale - Dore Head - Road - Wasdale NT Camp Site

This was a walk I had been waiting to do for a very long time. I hadn't always planned to go
straight up the front of Kirk Fell, but to see Pillar Rock for myself, to actually be on Red pike's edge..
just had to be done.
HOWEVER... not having walked anywhere in 3 months.. I have to say this is NOT the walk to kick off with.
I haven't made much of an effort with the web site for quite some time, so here is my full story of this amazing walk.

PAGE ONE - KIRK FELL
and my first cloud inversion!

My trusty Vango and the Nation Trust camp site the night before the walk..

My First Wainwright of the day.. ohh gosh that looks like hard work....

Looking towards Red Pike, Yewbarrow to the far left

Yewbarrow itself

Through the mist to Lingmell

Off all todays pics, this is possibly my favourite because it will always remind me of my first could inversion.
When you have you head down, climbing hard and you know this view is coming, believe me.. its worth the pain.

Exactly as before, but this time above the cloud.

Lingmell in the foreground, behind Scafell Pike center left, Mickledore is the bit that looks cut out, and Scafell to the right.

Across Wasdale Head to Illgill Head and Whin Rigg

Looking down into the mist.. not far to go now surely.. ya right...

Looking UP.. Scree Slopes.. wonderful...
this really was were my heart started thumping.. seriously steep.

Same as before from further up

OK time for a 'Silly Chris Tip' time... if, like me you happen to carry a very heavy pack,
when you collapse on the floor needing a break.. and then stand up and put your pack back on..
face down hill.. cause honestly..if the sudden weight tips you backwards.. this is one hell of a long way down.

Dore Head between Yewbarrow and Red Pike

Somewhere down there, at the foot of Lingmell is my campsite..somewhere....

At last, the Summit of Kirk Fell.. whipppeeeee. View of Looking Stead from the Summit.

Kirk Fell's Summit Cairn taken from the shelter.

Across to Fleetwith Pike from Kirk Fell

Most amazing view of what I am 99% sure is the Helvellyn range.. has to be.. lol

The one and only Great Gable..

And again but with my fav mountain to the right, Great End.

Stunning view of Lingmell, and the Scafell's

Off Kirk Fell's summit over Yewbarrow, click to get a lage version.

Red Pike for KF's Summit

And finally, moi in the shelter.. do I look pleased with myself??
