Arnison Crag and Birks - 4.35 miles - 1,788 ft Asc.
The
last time I tried to walk up these two fells I ended up walking between them,
the mist and fog was so bad the tops were totally hidden. Today was a different
story,
so I decided a straight on assault was the best option.

I left the path that goes around the bottom of AG, and headed straight up the front.

Left forground, Birks and beyond is Birkhouse Moor.

It was getting really hot by this time, and Jay was looking for another tarn to jump into.

Jay on top of Arnison Crag Summit... Catstycam in the far distance.

and again, this time the peak to the left of Jays head is Gavel Pike.

When
you look at it from here,
Birks doesn't look that steep along that left hand slope...
Looking down of Arnison Crag's summit Jay spots another small pool of water..

"you coming in Dad, it's gorgeous and cool.... "

Our ascent of Birks was long and hard.. and of course we had to stop for lots of drinks

Eventually St Sunday Crag came into view along with the Helvellyn range.
And before you knew it..

We were on the summit..

This turned
out to be my last summit of the day (long story),
and had I known that I would have sat down for quite some time
and enjoyed the view of Helvellyn and Ullswater..
This may not be the most well known summit in the lakes,
but it really is a wonderful place.

The full length of Striding Edge, (Birkhouse Moor) with Catstycam behind.

I decided to walk towards the base of St Sunday Crag and get a view looking up.
Then ..
Guess what Jay found??

Great
close up Striding Edge..
was really tempted to walk up St Sunday crag and come back down that way..

Jay sat on a rock during our decent of Birks.
