Lonscale Fell
24th August 2007

Completion of the Northern Fells for me!
Having been so close to this fell so many times it was something of a joy to not only get this done, but to have such amazing weather. It also finally gave me a chance to try out of new camera on a walk.

From Latrigg car park looking towards Carl Side and Skiddaw Little Man.

The path up Jenkin Hill to Lonsacle and Skiddaw can easily be seen for miles around.
We had travelled through the low cloud you see here and I was kind of hoping
that we might just get some nice pictures once we got above it.

Some of the locals...

Bright sunshine but not all that warm when the clouds rolled in.

and boy were they rolling in....

Kimberley over dressed as usual.. and where is all this kit going to end up???
In Dad's bag of course.. not today..

Charlie and the 'cotton wool clouds'

Far left is Causey Pike - Scar Crags - Sail (you can see the path) and then Crag Hill in the clouds...
to the right Grisdale Pike

Looking over to where I would be later in the day, Clough Head, Great Dodd

Jay enjoying a rest

Zara doing the same. I think this is when you know you have an SLR camera...

I remember how the path up here seemed to go on and on and on when Kerenza and I did this the first time.
Having said that it was our first ever real walk in the lakes..
I can report that the path has not gotten any shorter!

Click on the picture above and not only do you get a blured blow up of one of the infernal flies
that were everyewhere, but you also get a pretty awesome view of twelve or more fells.

Looking back to the car park and Latrigg, behind that is Walla Crag and Bleaberry Fell

There's our car... the joys of having an SLR camera..

Fourth down from the van at the top, with the roof rack

There are about five photo's just like this one..
but all have slightly different angles and cloud formations

A close up of Catbells, Maiden Moor behind it

The dogs were loving the walk but man was it getting hot.

Another local who wasn't all bothered by the dogs..
I don't think anyone had told her that dogs can jump fences really easy..
not that I would allow mine to do so

Taken from along side the beck between Lonscale and Jenkin Hill

One the the millions of little flies that bugged us all morning

Ohh man is it hot

I think they call this 'The Money Shot'.. Lonscale Fell's summit.
Little Man to the left, Skiddaw to the right..

Great Calva from the summit

A close up of Calva

To the right, past the forground area you see the MOST exciting Wainwright fell.. cough....
Mungrisdale Common.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Across Lonscales top to Blencathra

I should now point out that I have about 150 photos taken from this walk that are totally usless.. Why....
Well because before starting to snap away I forgot to check where I had set the ISO to.
The way my D40 works is that when in full Auto mode it over rides any ISO setting, thankfully I took quite a few pics
with it on auto. What I forgot was that the night before I had been messing about with the camera trying
to take night time shots without a flash.. and had set the ISO to 1600! .. great for that.. but lousy on the quality.. grainy....
I actually figured this all out when we got to Whit Beck and I started to take pics of the water..
until that point quite a lot of my photo's were over expossed and usless...
below however is one I managed to play with.. and I kinda like it....

If the flies had not been trying to eat us I could have sat and looked at this view all day.

Blencathra from our decent by the side of Lonscale Crags

Hope you enjoyed our pics
