From Scafell Pike you have a number of choices as to where to go next.
You can obviously go back the way you came.. no chance of that happening.
You can go down and back up to Broad Crag and Ill Crag and onto Esk Hause.. very long way around..and I had already bagged those to mountains months before.
Or.. you can brave Mickledore and then either become totally insane and climb Broad Stand, or
descend Mickledore, and then climb to Foxes Tarn.
We chose the last option...

Heading for Mickldore, you can see the first grey/red scree to the left, that was my route down.
Peter chose the one directly below Broad Stand.

This is the view from Mickledore back up to Scafell Pike

Broad Stand from Mickledore

Yewbarrow in the distance with Wasdale below again from Mickledore.

Now you know I said the insane route was up Broad Stand..

well the easier one is up to Foxes Tarn..

ok??

Yeh right...

Not impressed by this at all.. but.. in all honesty.. not as hard as it looks.

This Pete at the bottom of that gully.

Broad Stand from our accent.

..

I very deliberatly put distance between the two of us as there was so
many lose rocks I worried I might send one down onto Pete's head.

A waterfall on the way up to the tarn.

And the view up beyond the tarn to Scafell

Looking back down from the same place.

We both needed a rest before attempting this, so we sat by the tarn and had a drink.
Because.. this is only half way up...

This is the rest of the way......

and...

All that pain,

all the effort ..

why??

This is why!

Taken from a point between Symonds Knott and Scafell's summit,
yet another shot of Wast Water.. but then how could I not include this???

or yet another one of Pillar?

Can u see the people stood on top of Scafell Pike's summit??

ET phone home... he he..
to be fair I had phoned Odette from here to let her know we were ok,
the first time we had been able to get a signal.

Scafell Summit - 964m 3,162ft

The above picture is taken with my Nokia 6280 mobile phone, not bad ehh??

Yes I really was as tired as I look.

Again taken with the Nokia.. is was eating at the time...

We came down off Scafell using what we thought was the quickest route.

Burnmoor Tarn

Following this couple who seemed to know what they were doing.. never a good idea

Hey I can see our mini bus. cant be bad.. click the image

Remind me again where this is... ohh yeh.. Wast Water

Now we started to figure out that this quickest route..

really was going to be quick..

maybe even a tad quicker than we would have liked...

Peter decided that the easiest way to do this part was to sit down,

and slide down

slowly..

but only problem with this plan...

is

gravity!

You don't want to know how fast he is going at this point...

All good things must come to 'an end' and this did..

I'd raced up the hill at this point.. cause I knew he was hurt..
the gash where Pete is holding turned out to only be a bad graze, but there was blood every where.

We decided to push on and get off the hill, and thankfully things where not as bad as first thought

Looking back to Scafell.

Lingmell, click the image for a large one.

This is the route we took off Scafell.. never again.. never..

Please do email us if you have any comments. Chris
