Walking with my very good
friend Chris, with whom I had last done Helvellyn,
we planned to do a long walk with one real intention. I am now up to 66 Wainwrights,
and although Chris has walked many of the AW fells before, he has decided
to start again
as far as logging them is concerned.
So, for Chris this was walk one, had better make it a good one then, hadn't
we???
With so many summits I am going to make this into a multi page report.
Grasmere to Stickle Tarn
The weather
forcast was for low cloud in the morning, clearing by the
afternoon,
but with clear skies at times!!
Opps.. wrong again!

7am, Helm Crag from our walk through the woods at Allen Bank.

Our first view of Grasmere.
I should mention that I meant to take lots of pics of the start of this
walk to show the way out of Grasmere up to Silver How,
I soon figured out why no one bothers to do this..
there are sign posts every where telling you which way to go..

Grasmere in the fore ground
with Rydal Water behind..
notice the banks of low cloud??

Chris on Silver How's sumit, 1 down - 9 to go

Our objective for the day, the Langdale Pikes.

Chris on Silver How's summit inspecting some camera equipment..

Chris starting the climb
up to Blea Rigg.
There are names for all the places along the way,
but I am not sure of what they all are.. so forgive me pls.

More pictures of the route to Blea Rigg

Had we asked for a more beautiful day......

I have tried to figure
out which ones of these to use...
and as normal.. can't decide.. sooo enjoy..
Blea Rigg summit is just above the tarn to the left.
Harrison Stickle is the hugh rock in the distance.

Same again, Pavey Ark also now showing.
But then I like this shot below...

Crinkle Crags in the back ground.

Looking back to almost the way we had come from.

Chris snapping Easedale Tarn.

Blea Rigg summit at last...

The shelter just below the summit.

You can actually climb
right inside and I dare say
in the middle of a hail storm this would be a blessing.

Chris getting ready to shoot towards Easedale tarn..

Stickle
Tarn comes into view and our first real look at the Pikes up close. It was some where about this point that I explained to Chris that we needed to make a decision as to what our ascent route would be. We had agreed that we would look at it when we got there and see what we thought. As you can see there are various paths up, but one which I told him we would not be taking is called Jacks Rake... that's the diagonal one across the front of Pavey Ark.. |

Close up of Pavey Ark.
You can see Jacks Rake path goes straight up from the tarn and then diagonal
left.

Harrison Stickle from the tarn.
