Hallin Fell & Steel Knotts
26th May 2007

Today I wanted to get done some of the fells I had some how managed to miss out whilst bagging other hills. I will no doubt do these fells again using different routes, but today was all about getting them done, whilst enjoying our time out in the very fresh air. My youngest two stayed with mom, which meant for the first time ever I walked with just my eldest, Kimberley. We had already done this walk in the morning.

Hallin Fell

Taken from the side of Steel Knotts, this is Hallin Fell. You can see our ascent route straight up the middle,
the church below is where we parked. It was packed with people which is surprising in one way
because this road is a dead end, but given the number of camp sites along this road maybe not.

From the car park it takes only twenty minutes or so to get to the top..
really is cheating doing it from here but we were bagging summits, so for today this will do...
What a view though when you get there... this is west towards the Helvellyn range, Place fell is on the far left.

Looking east from the same place... and a very busy summit.

We brought along my wifes dog, she loved it but needs a little instruction still on recall...

The Martindale Valley, Beda Fell to the right, Steel Knotts to the left

Kimi next to the most amazing summit cairn.. why can't they all be like this??

On our way down and our next Wainwright, Steel Knotts .. time to go back to the car.. and then climb again

Steel Knotts

Given we had already made three summits we took the decision to go straight at this one.
There is a route that takes you north west around Steel End, but it's quite a long walk around,
instead we headed straight up Birkie Knott.

Kimi didn't much care for the off path route, her asthma was giving her a lot of trouble,
but she kept going.. the views soon made it worth it .. Hallin Fell to the left and the in the valley Sandwick

Hallin Fell behind Kimi

The summit of Steel Knotts called Pikeawassa. To the right of the rock is Arthur's Pike

Just had to get this pic...

Looking down Martindale center picture is 'The Nab', with to the left what I believe
to be the only single house to be mentioned by name on an OS map, 'The bungalow'

Now can you see it??

Beda Fell from Steel Knotts

One last one of Hallin Fell

Arthur's Pike and Ullswater from Pikeawassa
