Fleetwith Pike from Honister Pass
13th Feb 2008

One day I will walk up Fleetwith Pike from either Haystacks or from Gategarth, for now though this will have to do as I really didn't have time for another long walk today.

Being on my own I got to Honister Slate mine only to find they wanted £5 off me to park there!.. Yeh right...
Just a little way down the pass there was a large layby, not somewhere I would park in summer for sure,
but for a few hours in the early winters morning, it would have to do.

Onwards up the quarry road then.. what a perfect day again!

Having seen this on David Hall's web site I was looking forward seeing it for myself...
It really is kinda freaky.. like a modern day stone henge..

I could rant on and on here how I HATE how these mines are leaving a scar on this beautiful place..
But then we all know this already...

Black Star tarn as I have named it... hehe.. Honister crag is to the right out of shot..
the summit of Fleetwith is center picture in the distance.

Looking across Honister pass to Hindscarth and Robinson

Fleetwith Pike Summit, High Stile and Red Pike behind

Looking back to Honister Crag

Just amazing views here of Crummock Water in the distance and Buttermere below.

Great Gable to the left, Kirk fell to the right and Scafell in the distance.

A.W.'s favorite place in the lakes, Haystacks

I had decided that no way could I come up here and not stand on the edge of Honister Crag..
this is taken on the way..
and no.. it doesn't even come close to giving you an idea of how far down it was...

Jay decided he needed a sit down.. no big deal really except... the rock he is leant on..

... is in the center of the picture at the bottom..
he was a lot closer the the edge than I wanted to get..

I could have put the bigger lens on, and next time I will.. but don't they look small??

Looking back to the mine working

And one's no longer in use.
