This is a web page dedicated to the mountain climber
Kerenza Adelaide Harper (aged 7). (now aged 9)
On Saturday the 23rd April 2005 Kerenza and myself (Dad, Chris) made an accent of Skiddaw mountain in the north Lake District. This hill is 3054 feet high and even on a wonderfully hot day in Keswick (a few miles to the south) the temperature on the top can be so cold that snow still lies in places. We hope this page gives you some idea of the wonderful achievment that our 7 year old daughter has managed on only her third attempt at hill climbing. Last month she climbed 1625 feet up Snowdon in Wales, and in the afternoon of the 22nd of April 2005 she climbed to the top of Walla Cragg, just outside Keswick (photo's and web page to come of that walk, but the one below shows her on the way up to there, with Skiddaw and Little Man behind her). |

Please give time for the images to load

You can see on the map 4 letters, A,B,C & D.
I will use these letters to give you some idea of where the photo's were taken.

First photo is was actually taken after the climb, but shows Kerenza at A, looking up towards Jenkin Hill. I have to say that the path you see going up the hill is a lot steeper than it looks. The hill top left is Little Man. Holding onto Daddy's stick whilst he took the photo. just in case you wondered... |
----------------------------------
Taken almost at the top of Jenkin Hill looking back towards to car park. A little bit further up... looking back down on Keswick and Derwent Water. |
--------------------------------
Taken at the base of Little Man, (B) where we came across several large mounds of snow. Kerenza showed me her snow ball and I took her picture.. then she asked, "are you finished yet".. "Yes honey", I answered.. and then she threw it at me.. the rotter... he he he Below, taken from the same place, looking towards Great Calva to the north east. |
remember.. click on the picture for a really big version..
------------------------------
At the foot of Skiddaw (C) we decided to have lunch. The small gully you can see Kerenza sat in may not have been deep but the wind was starting to get up at this point and it was about the only place we were going to get any shelter for quite some time. Again you can see that the climb was quite something for a little girl, ....and her old man...

--------------------------------
At the top at last! Hiding behind the first lot of rocks, the wind was very strong now and for this reason we did not stay up there very long. Fabulous picture looking north towards the trig point at the top of Skiddaw itself. You can't see on this but there are quite a few people about, most of them in the dip walking either towards us or towards the point.. Taken from D this shows the rocks from the other way, looking south. This one you really do need to click on, it's a brilliant picture. Feeling the wind just a bit... |

| At the trig point, trying to get some shelter. With Daddy, feeling somewhat over come by everyones congratulations. A kind gentleman took this photo, with about 10 others mulling around all saying how brilliant she was for doing so well. Daddy's favourite photo! ------------------------------ Kerenza may grow up to be many things, one thing she is already is a very good photographer.... remember there was a gale blowing from behind her when she took this ... please look at the big one..
