Selside Pike - Branstree - Tarn Crag - Grey Crag
3rd September 2007

Looking back to past the lower Artlecrag cairn, the stone pillar and the tarn shown on the map

Ok taken from very near Branstree's summit I have been trying to figure out exactly where this is..
The foreground is I think High Street, but what the peek in the distance is..
can't work it out.. sorry.

t

On top of Branstree at last.. the summit is a cirlce in the ground.. and yes ..
I forgot to take a picture of it.. next time..
Ohh you will notice me missing some teeth right now... dentist on the 18th...

On the way to Tarn Crag the kids found me a replacement set.. yuck..

I had looked on David and Andrews web site many time concerning this route and I really hadn't
figured out just how much you drop down Selside Brow.
This seemed like a good way on doing this on the map, now I was beginning to wonder.

From the valley between Branstree and Tarn crag looking towards Harter Fell in the distance.
The mound to the left is called Adam Seat.

Tarn Crag pillar, the summit cairn is off to the left.

From the pillar looking towards Kentmere Pike

Looking back to Branstree on the right, the valley between there and Adam Seat is the top of Gatesgarth Pass.

Another view of Tarn Crag summit

and the cairn

From the summit looking to Grey Crag across the bog.
NOTE:- this is NOT somewhere you want to be when it's been raining a lot.

Grey Crag summit

Yehhhhhh Far Eastern Fells completed !

Looking back to Tarn Crag from Grey Crag

From Grey Crag we walked back up Tarn Crag along the fence until we got to another fence that goes in a
south westerly dierction. Following that you got to yet another fence that leads you down the hill.
We aimed for the stone bridge you see bottom left.

From that bridge looking towards Kentmere Pike on the right.

Most of the standing water on top of Tarn and Grey Crag is undrinkable, even for Jay...
this he just loved... the stream running along side the track up Gatescarth pass.

Looking back to Tarn Crag

at the top of Gatescarth Pass, this is Harter Fell

Our decent route back to Mardale Head

Haweswater

Almost there, the lower part of the pass back to the car.

Some pictures of Gatescarth Beck

Hope you have enjoyed this rather long report.
